In May 2014, the heaviest rains and floods in 120 years hit Bosnia and the surrounding region. The Bosnian war in the early 1990s put an end to competitive football in the territory and as a result FK Sarajevo became a tour club in 1993, under the management of Fuad Muzurović, with players such as Elvir Baljić, Almir Turković, Senad Repuh and Mirza Varešanović, all future Bosnia and Herzegovina national team players. Sarajevo came first in their six-team league in Jablanica and finished second in the league's final leg in Zenica, behind local club Čelik. Sarajevo have been a regular in Europa League qualifying in the 21st century, but have yet to reach the group stages. Under Tan's leadership, the club signed quality players like Miloš Stojčev, Džemal Berberović and Nemanja Bilbija who helped the club win the 2013-14 Bosnian Cup, their first silverware since winning the Premier League in 2006- 07. Ahead of the Cup triumph, Robert Jarni was appointed as the club's new manager in December 2013 by Tan, but was quickly removed from his position after only 4 months in charge (on 7 April 2014, when the team was still in Bosnian Cup semi-final) due to the team failing to maintain their chances of winning the domestic league title during the latter stages of the 2013–14 season. FK Sarajevo played a friendly against Tan's Cardiff City FC U21, winning 4-1. In the 2014–15 UEFA Europa League, FK Sarajevo eliminated FK Haugesund and Atromitos to advance to the play-off round, where they lost to German side Borussia Mönchengladbach.

But he was unable to lift the club, narrowly avoiding relegation to the Third Division on the final day with a 2-0 victory over Milwall. United finished fifth in 1934–35 as supporters began to return to Old Trafford. The Cup was retained the following year, and although they finished third in the league, Sarajevo were runners-up due to the play-offs. At the start of the second half of the season – and despite still being a player in the youth team – Havertz is a regular in the professional team.
